More Pet Food Recalled

Is anyone else worried that if it's so easy to have hundreds of brands of pet food have been so easily contaminated. Could this translate into our own food supplies? I know there are different procedures for human food preparations, but would it be possible for our food supplies to become poison? It's been seen in the e-coli contaminations of spinach last summer. What about other foods?

I feel bad for pet owners -- not knowing what is safe and what is not. I hope this will help us become more aware and keep it from happening again.

Anyone giving away a GPS?

Okay, I know this is a strange blog topic, but I really want a GPS -- so I wondered if there may be someone out there who has an old one and isn't using it and doesn't really know what to do with it. I would be happy to take it and put it to good use. :-) I'd even blog about it and give you full credit for the gift. Anyway, I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. (big grin)

Gladys Knight and the Mormon Church (LDS Church)

Gladys Knight Tells Floridians, "This is the Light"
By Geoffrey Biddulph

Gladys Knight and her 60-person choir of Latter-day Saints gave four performances for more than 5,000 people in southern Florida last week.

"This is the way, this is the light," she said in teary testimony regarding The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Gladys Knight is famous worldwide for such songs as "I Heard it Through the Grapevine" and "Midnight Train to Georgia." Over the weekend, she, along with her choir and a three-person band gave four shows to thousands of members and non-member investigators, who crowded into the Fort Lauderdale Florida stake center building. They heard Knight's renditions of "Because I have been Given Much" and "I am a Child of God," as well as several Gospel songs that are not in the Church hymn
book.

Knight sang several solos, but she also directed several choir members who also took the stage alone. They sang songs such as "Uphold Me with Thy Sweet Spirit" and "Oh, How I Love Jesus" with a swelling choir behind them.

The highlight of the evening was certainly when the famed singer and her husband both gave their testimonies of the restored gospel. "It is indeed a miracle that I belong to this church," Sister Knight said. "The image of the Church in the past has not been conducive to my being here. It shows His hand in motion. An African-American woman: Who knew I would have a calling such as this?"

Knight has indeed been given a special calling by the Brethren to travel throughout the world giving her testimony both in speech and through song. Given her fame and her reputation, she may be a vessel for bringing thousands of tens of thousands to investigate the Church.

Several years ago, Gladys Knight's son was the first member of her family to look at the Church. After he got baptized, her daughter came next.

Sister Knight described her search for God's true church, which came after the baptism of her children: "I was raised in a Baptist home. We spent all day on Sunday at church. I was kind of all over the place religiously. I was a Baptist and then a Catholic and then I went to several other churches. I was seeking. There was something good in every one of those churches, but I thought there's got to be more. My daughter Kenya said, 'talk to the missionaries.' I fell in love right away. They were respectful, and the first thing they said was,

'Can we pray?' I believe in the power of prayer. They told me, 'You check it out.' I got on my knees and asked the Lord, and I got my answer. I couldn't wait for my next lessons.. I said I wanted to get baptized tomorrow." Very soon after that, she was baptized.

Her husband, William McDowell, gave an eloquent and humor-laced testimony about his courtship and marriage to one of the most famous singers around.

They met because he was the manager of a spa in San Diego. "As Gladys kept traveling around the world, and I kept on traveling around San Diego, it was common knowledge Gladys has lost her mind and had joined those Mormons," Brother McDowell said.

He would go to visit her in Las Vegas and, "There were a lot of young men on bicycles who kept on visiting — hungry young men on bicycles." McDowell added, "They kept on saying they belonged to the true church of Jesus Christ. I was raised very Baptist by god-fearing people, my grandparents. How could they not be members of the true church?"

But McDowell said he went to seminary and read The Book of Mormon and then got on his knees and asked, and "I received the answers. My grandparents had prepared me to recognize the Truth when I saw it."

He acknowledged his brother, who was in the audience, and said, "This is the first time he has heard my testimony. Hopefully I can bring my family to a truth. The Church of Jesus Christ has been restored. It was restored by a young boy, Joseph Smith, who in a field saw God the Father and Jesus Christ."

McDowell continued, "Take the time to research and find out for yourself. Take the time to pick up The Book of Mormon. Ask whether it is true. If you want to see a miracle, just think that Gladys Knight is running a choir in the Mormon Church."

He then introduced his wife as "Gladys Knight McDowell," and she sang a song to which Brother McDowell wrote the lyrics — "He Lives." It was a very moving song about the Savior that Knight sang to a misty-eyed crowd.

"I have to give this testimony of mine," Knight said. "I have no other choice. Sometimes the truth is right before you and you don't see it."

Knight said that it has sometimes been difficult for her to tell people she is a Mormon. "But this is the true church. It has the 12 apostles, just like Jesus' church. Just like the people in Jesus' day, we need to look farther for the truth. The people in those days got the same ridicule we get today. I was willing to risk that for the honor of serving him."

She asked non-members in the audience, "At least see for yourselves. At least be obedient to that end." She then went into the audience to shake hands and give hugs to the many people who adore her.

Mission President Noel Reynolds said his missionaries received 425 solid referrals from the event.

"The missionaries from the Haitian branch brought 17 people, and one young lady asked to be baptized right away after hearing Gladys Knight's testimony," President Reynolds said. Another ward mission leader had been asking his father, a Baptist, to hear the discussions for year. His father finally agreed with enthusiasm after attending the Gladys Knight event.

A Mormon in the White House?

A new book has been written by Hugh Hewitt entitled "A Mormon in the White House? Ten Things Every American Needs to Know About Mitt Romney." I just read a great article in Meridian Magazine that reviewed the book -- and thought you might be interested as well.

Google Opens up Mobile Search

Google is opening up their mobile search for use by anyone. The Google mobile homepage will allow widgets to be added so users can customize and personalize their content. Plus, you will be able to remember past search locations so that future search results will be more relevant.

What will be cool is that you can search for movie times from your mobile device, and then buy tickets from your cell phone/PDA or whatever you're using. Pretty cool. Can't wait to see it working smoothly.

Getting Organized

"We shape our buildings and afterwards, our buildings shape us," said Winston Churchill. The kind of environment we live in has effects on our thinking, behaviorism, and health. A chaotic environment has an adverse effect on physical and emotional state.

I've just finished reading a great article about Organizing Clutter. My roommate just moved out, and it's motivated me to dejunk, organize my garage and finally get through those boxes of papers that I've been carrying around. Thought if you're getting ready to do your spring cleaning as well - you might enjoy the article.

Mitt Romney and Rocky Anderson -- Friends?

It seems that Mitt Romney is now limiting the extent of his friendship with Salt Lake City mayor Rocky Anderson -- because of Anderson's ridiculous views about impeaching President Bush. Mitt worked closely and well with Rocky Anderson during the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake. Anyway, you can read more about it in the Deseret News.

Being Mormon Makes Mitt Romney a Great Candidate

I just read an article about Mitt Romney and the fact that being a Mormon (Latter-day Saint) would make him a good President. Just thought I'd share.

Rocky Anderson Agrees to Debate Sean Hannity

Well, it looks like the debate between the mayor of Salt Lake City -- Rocky Anderson -- and Sean Hannity will be on May 4th. I'm utterly embarrassed by Rocky Anderson and his complete lack of respect not only for the President, but for the people in his city. He is not representing the people -- he is using his office as a personal platform for his ridiculous ideas.

I saw a clip with Bill O'Reilly basically slamming Rocky Anderson -- and just wonder how in the world there is so much press for someone who is an embarrassment. I guess it's the "news" factor -- gets people up in arms or something.

I can't wait until his term is over and we can get someone in the mayor's office who will bring dignity and positive change to the city.

Mitt Romney on Larry King Live

I just came across some really grea video clips of Mitt Romney on Larry King Live -- as well as talking to Sean Hannity. I was really impressed with Mitt. I've liked him in the past and loved what he did with the Olympics -- but after watching the video clips I am even more impressed. He is well-spoken, knowledgable, has a great relationship with his wife and I think would make an incredible leader. Check out the videos for yourself. Mitt Romney Interviews

Pet Food Recall

What a horrible thing for pet owner's to think that the food they are feeding their pet may be dangerous. I remember when my dog died when I was in high school. I was devastated. I hope pet owners will pay attention to the recall. You can get more information through this link: Pet Food Recall Details

Decompression for Back Pain - Does it work?

Hi all -- I'm interested in trying the back decompression machine that chiropractors are tauting as helping those with back pain. I was injured in a fall two years ago and still am trying to recover. I've heard that the decompression machines will help those that even surgery does not help.

If you've used the machine and had success (or not), I would really like to hear from you. It's quite expensive and I don't want to try that route until I know if it will work. They claim they have about an 80% success rate.

Anyway, I'd love to get any feedback. Thanks

Quickbooks vs. Quicken

I just started using Quickbooks 2007 Pro, and have used Quicken for years. But now I'm tracking more than one business, as well as my personal finances. I really like both programs, but don't know which would work best for my needs. I thought that maybe I should upgrade my Quicken to the latest version and keep using that for my personal finances -- and then also use Quickbooks for my business needs.

There is actually a version of Quicken -- Home and Business version that I probably should get. But I've already installed Quickbooks 2007 Pro and it's been over the 60 return policy -- so I hate to not use it. Has anyone used the Quicken Home and Business version -- and what do you think of it?

Maybe I could sell the Quickbooks on eBay (since I don't need to do payroll) and then get the Quicken Home and Business version which might do everything I want. I'd love some advice. Anyone have any suggestions on which accounting software would be best for my needs?

Business Expo at UVSC

I was at the Business Expo held at UVSC in Provo yesterday. I was really happy that I attended this year. I got a free ticket from Funding Universe (an organization that helps entrepreneurs with creating effective business plans and getting funding from investors.) So, it was kind of a last minute decision to attend.

Bill Rancic -- the famous "Apprentice" winner was the keynote speaker for the first day. I didn't get a chance to hear him, but he spoke about having passion for what you do.

I really enjoyed seeing all of the business resources in Utah Valley. There were internet marketing companies (all of whom talked down to me as a woman -- like I didn't know anything about computers or internet marketing -- hmm), but I decided to think of it as funny rather than offensive.

I actually had some new business ideas as I saw what some vendors could provide my current business.

I made a bunch of new contacts, and I even won a really nice Golf Bag from Zions Bank. Yeah! Very cool. So, overall it was a great way to spend my day.

Cheap Web Hosting

I just found cheap web hosting. I've looked around for a while, and had 6 of my domains hosted at GoDaddy.com -- and 10 hosted with another host, and about 75 more domains to find hosting for. Anyway with GoDaddy.com Hosting Plans you can get web hosting for $12.00 per month -- and can host an unlimited number of sites. Much cheaper than hosting them individually.

Now there are benefits of hosting sites on different servers, but if you just have one or two sites, I really like the GoDaddy hosting accounts. For less than $4.00 per month you can host your site and get all of the features you should need.

Anyway, check out the GoDaddy.com Hosting Plans.
