Domain Names for Sale

I have a few domain names for sale if you are interested or know someone who might be. The top domain we have just put on the market is www.everysingleperson.com. It was originally to be a combination of LinkedIn (a networking site for professionals) and LDSSingles or Match.com (online dating services). There would be a huge benefit in having a dating service which is only run through referrals -- so you would meet people through other people, and have security knowing that the person is being represented accurately.

The website could be another MySpace type site with every person getting their own site. The domain has been appraised at upwards of $63,000 but we are only asking $50,000. If you're interested, please contact me directly at romayallen (at) hotmail.com. The transaction would be done through a secure escrow service. I have other domain names for sale as well, so if you have interest, let me know.

Search Engine Strategies

In order to succeed online you need to have search engine strategies, otherwise you can build the world's greatest looking site, and no one will ever find it.

Your search engine strategies should include at least 5 key factors. The most important factors are:

1. What are your website's objectives?

You should determine if your site is built to educate, inform, motivate or sell products. Make sure you continually remind yourself of the purpose of your site, otherwise you can easily get distracted by cool site features and forget what you want your customers experience to be.

2. Who is your target audience?

Study your target market. What information do they need to make an informed decision? What is their computer background? Check out your competition and find out what they are doing well.

Analyze what is working and what is not, then make adjustments as necessary.

3. Make a search-engine friendly site.

If your site is simple and clean to a search engine spider, it is more likely to be ranked. If your site design is not accurate and built properly, a search engine spider may never index your site. Make sure that search engine optimization is part of the full development process. It is crucial to success online.

4. Website design: look and feel

After all of the search engine optimization factors have been incorporated, then you can focus on the look and feel of your site. This is another vital aspect of your online success. It needs to be easy to use. The user should easily find what they are looking for. Everything should work properly. There is nothing like broken links or the inability to search a site which will cause a potential customer to backtrack out of your site. What kind of experience do you want your users to have? Also make sure to include a site map of your site.

5. Website optimization and promotion

Once your site is up and running, you still have a lot of work to do. You must promote your site (let search engines know you are live), and start marketing your site.

There are hundreds of traditional and internet marketing strategies to promote your site some which are free (just cost some time) and others which can be quite expensive. Set a budget. Track every marketing tactic you use to see what is working. Then determine if you need to improve your site performance for better results. Experiment. You have between 5-7 seconds to catch the attention of your visitor - if your site is not optimized you are losing visitors and money.

Unless you are an SEO expert, you may consider hiring an SEO company to track your marketing, determine your conversion from visitors to buyers, and make optimizations to your site to increase conversions.

Monster.com Launches Marketing Channel

Monster.com has launched a marketing, advertising and public relations channel. The only sponsor for the category is Aquent, a marketing and PR headhunting firm. The marketing channel includes a community and message board as well as a specialized search from the Monster database for marketing, advertising and PR resumes.

$100 Laptops

Recently an article in Computerworld discussed a project to provide $100 laptops for children in developing countries. The laptops should be available by the middle of next year and hopes to ship 100 million laptops by 2008. The hope is that the price of the laptop will drop down to $50 by 2010.

In order to get the price of the laptop computers down to $100, sales and marketing teams have been eliminated (which generally make up 50% of the cost of a typical computer.) Huge companies are participating in the project including: Red Hat, Google, Advanced Micro Devices, News Corporation, BrightStar, Marvell Technology Group, Nortel Networks, eBay, 3M, and Quanta Computer, the large Taiwanese notebook manufacturer expected to build the laptops.

The laptops will have keyboard and USB ports sealed in order to protect the computers from dust and water. They will also be designed to use only 2 watts of power. A crank will be attached to either the notebook or to an AC adapter, and other innovated designs are being considered to allow users to power their machines through solar or manual power.

The infrastructure and satellites are already being put into place for small rural communities in third world countries in order to connect these computers to the internet.

Project Management Software

Do any of you know a great project management software? I've looked and most are not exactly what I'm looking for. I really want a glorified task list with the ability to group tasks into projects, track spending and revenues, and make assignments as well as prioritize the tasks. Any help would be appreciated.

eBay bans Google Checkout

As expected, eBay has banned sellers from using Google Checkout -- the new online payment system which will compete with PayPal. eBay has added Google Checkout to its unapproved payment methods. I'm not surprised at the ban. PayPal is a huge source of revenue for eBay and I can't imagine them opening their doors for Google to swoop in and take a large portion of their income.

Training Classes

Our training classes on Saturday and today went well. It's so exciting to me to see people catch onto the marketing ideas and actually go home and do something. We set up several blogs and hope to hold a class specifically about blogging in the next month or so.

Google Checkout - Online Payment Service

Google has just launched Google Checkout - its new online-payment service similar to PayPal. Google Checkout has also been referred to as Google Wallet and Gbuy). The new service will compete with PayPal and Amazon.com. It is reported that rebates will be offered to people who use Google Checkout to purchase online. The online payment service will be combined with AdWords and allow merchants and advertisers to embed an icon into their ads -- indicating they accept Google Checkout payments. Then if the customer wants to buy, they simply go through the process to complete the purchase.

Google Launches Government Search Engine

Google has recently launched a vertical search engine targeting only U.S. government sites. The new search Google U.S. Government Search site is designed so that federal employees who need to search across a lot of government sites can do so quickly. It is also available for anyone to easily find government information and gives the end-user the ability to set up news feeds onto their homepage.

Patriotic Service - Stephen Covey

Last night I attended a Patriotic Service with Stephen Covey as the keynote speaker. He talked about becoming a "Patriotic Trim Tabber" -- a Trim Tab is the small rudder on a large rudder of a ship. It is the trim tab which makes the larger rudder turn and therefore directs the ship.

I had heard Dr. Covey give a similar speech at BYU a few months ago and was happy to have the reminders about how small things/small adjustments can change a life course.

Dr. Covey discussed 4 basic human needs: 1) To Live 2) To Love 3) To Learn 4) To Leave a Legacy.

My favorite part of the evening was a short video about Making Your Life a Masterpiece. If you were to paint a picture of your life, what would it be? What colors would you use? It was very thought provoking. I also loved the philosophy: "Live Life in Crescendo". I would like to incorporate that mantra into my life more -- making life bigger and better as it goes along.

I always love hearing people speak about service, improving the world around us, and learning truths. It motivates me to be better, do more, and improve my own life.

Stadium of Fire Recap

Well, I have to say last night's Stadium of Fire Celebration was one of my favorite shows of all time. The fireworks seemed much longer and better this year than ever before. The entertainment was really great. I loved every minute. Of course, Taylor Hicks was my favorite -- he just LIVES music and that enthusiasm is contagious. The crowds went wild when he came out.

I'd like to send my thanks to the thousands of volunteers who make this show possible and to all of the troops who fight and sacrifice for our freedom -- may we never take it for granted!
