Linked In - Making Connections
For all of you who are not familiar with Linked In -- it's a great resource for meeting people, making connections, looking for people to hire, and finding work opportunities. Basically you sign up, include your education background, work experience and then invite your personal contacts to join. Then you'll find people who are connected to those you know. It's an easy way to get referrals.
I have a friend I invited to join who signed up, was looking for a job, found a job and applied. It happens that I gave my friend a recommendation. The employer knew my brother (who also recommended my friend.) She got the job the next day. The employer knew I wouldn't recommend someone who wasn't going to do a good job and he trusted my opinion. It's working out great for both of them. All that happened because I knew someone who knew someone. It's a great resource and if you're going to be successful at networking, you need to join Linked In and get started.
