Benefits of Genealogy Research

I hear success stories just about every day, of people connecting with ancestors through Ancestry.com. But I also get to hear about other benefits from the genealogy service. An article in an Arizona Newspaper described a man whose father had passed away in 2001. Someone had found his father's dog tags (which had been lost over 60 years before) in the desert and was trying to find the owner of the dog tags to return them. A ameteur genealogist read about the search, tracked down the family through Ancestry.com and was able to get the dog tags back to the son over the Easter weekend. It's a wonderful story and just another reason I love genealogical research.
